Welcome to the Reading Room – a short round up of interesting reading about anything and everything to do with digital communication.
There’s a lot of talk about chatbots and how they will change the service industry. Once you start paying attention, you’ll see chatbots popping up in many different sectors: from online shopping, banking and fashion, to healthcare and weather. The purpose of a chatbot can be serious, fun or functional – read on below to see which chatbots are being noticed and why…
The 5 Best Facebook Messenger Bots You Should Try Immediately
There are apparently more than 100,000 bots available on Facebook Messenger! From the top 5 mentioned in this article, I had a chat to Poncho regarding the weather (it knew about Hurricane Irma); asked HealthTap a question about age spots (for a friend!) and tried unsuccessfully to generate my own meme on MemeGenerator Bot. An interesting read, but browsing the web and social media for information still seems quicker.

Bots for the greater good: 6 chatbots making the world a better place
Great article about chatbots that have been created for altruistic reasons – to make the world a better place. Starting with ‘The World’s First Robot Lawyer’ which offers to help with issues relating to parking tickets, evictions, bankruptcies, and repossessions. If the first bot can’t help with your legal troubles, try the Woebot, a chatbot therapist that is available to listen and empathize 24 hours a day.

Chatbots and service industry - towards a better customer experience
I liked this article because it gives examples of intelligent chatbots in a range of service industries like healthcare, hospitality, fashion and finance. If you haven’t been through the customer experience of interacting with a chatbot yet, pick your industry and try one of the featured chatbots. It might spark an idea of how you could use a chatbot in your business.
