Unisys Corporation & Striata ~ a major Global Partnership announcement

'Electronic Bill presentment & payment via secure email' is a relatively new concept to the North American region. Over the past year, excellent progress has been made in educating billers, banks, Telco's and other industries, on the many benefits to the 'push' strategies that we propose.

Today we are proud to announce a breakthrough partnership that significantly impacts the EBPP and ebilling industry;

Striata and Unisys Corporation have recently concluded a global partnership agreement, under which Unisys will offer the Striata Application Platform (including the eBilling, eMarketing & eContact Suites) to its financial services customers around the world.

Unisys Corporation and Striata

Unisys is uniquely positioned in the financial services industry given its strong domain expertise and experience working with the leading banks around the world. The partnership with Striata is a perfect match of proven application development and trusted professional services and implementation experience.

In the short to medium term, this relationship is focused on the Financial Services sector. Solutions will be targeted at medium to large financial institutions that are aiming for significant increases in their Electronic Bill Presentment & Payment (EBPP) customer adoption rates.

Utilizing Striata's eBilling Suite, the Unisys EBPP strategy is to drive profitable consumer relationships and enhance retention by:

  • Leveraging the Unisys heritage and leadership in consulting services, payment processing and infrastructure
  • Expanding Unisys enterprise payments services in EBPP through a secure email process, in partnership with Striata:
    • Bank authenticated delivery of digitally signed and securely encrypted electronic statements and bills
    • Simple statement presentment as the first step to customer self-service - bridging the 'techno gap' and facilitating adoption
    • Presentment linked to real-time electronic payment facilities
  • Re-establishing consumer confidence in electronic banking
    • Targeting a broader base of the Financial Institution's consumer market base
      • Existing internet banking customers (10-15%)
      • Non-internet banking customers that do have email (50-70%)
  • Offering choice of a managed service or in-house solution

The fundamental offering is the replacement of all paper communication to the customer, with a secure electronic 'push' delivery channel:

  • For financial institutions looking to:
    • Secure communication with their customers
    • Promote broader and deeper electronic banking services
    • Reduce cost and improve customer retention
  • Unisys provides:
    • A reliable and proven solution with Striata
    • Rapid and secure implementation
    • Significantly reduced cost when compared to web-based solutions
    • Leadership in enterprise payments, consulting, infrastructure, managed services and security services

Globally, Striata's eBilling customers are achieving phenomenal savings in both cost and time by replacing paper with secure email bill and statement delivery. They are also experiencing significantly higher adoption rates from email than by presenting bills / statements solely on their websites.

About Unisys in Financial Services:

  • 22 of the top 25 global banks
  • 8 of the top 10 global Life Insurance companies
  • 5 of the top 10 global Property & Casualty companies
  • 50% of the world's checks are processed using Unisys solutions
  • 8,000+ clients
Email billing / statement presentment offers multiple strategic benefits and security layers:
  • Strategic benefits:
    • The secure document is 'pushed' and therefore is not open to public access such as a website
    • There is no requirement for the submission of sensitive customer information over the web
    • Payment data is transferred through secure HTTPS-post and not website submission
  • Security layers:
    • The email is digitally signed to authenticate the sender
    • The email is fully personalized including the 'to' address, subject line, introduction, email body and actual bill content
    • Striata's encryption is more secure than 128-bit SSL (by offering 168-bit 3DES or 256-bit AES)
    • Decryption of the bill is done through a 'shared secret' methodology
    • The bill is opened offline
    • The document can be saved in its encrypted format.
Each party brings great value to this partnership:
  • Unisys
    • Global Presence
    • Consulting Services and Project Management
    • Systems Integration
    • Industry Domain Expertise
  • Striata
    • Technology Solution and Architecture
    • Product Implementation Expertise
    • Product Development and Augmentation
"We are extremely proud of the close working relationship we have developed with Unisys, and we look forward to working together to help financial institutions achieve greater returns with their EBPP strategies," says Michael Wright CEO of Striata.
